Transportation’s Role in Placemaking

Starting with defining placemaking and how transportation fits within it, this presentation explores why throughout modern history transportation is known for ‘place-breaking’ more often than ‘place-making’. The transportation policies behind why transportation infrastructure becomes a literal barrier between places will be discussed, including recommendations for change. Finally, the presentation will review practical examples of how Gorove Slade has incorporated placemaking at the project level within the DC area.
